Privacy policy
Last updated: 11 October 2026
This policy explains what personal information is collected when you visit miamichaels.co.uk or contact Mia Michaels, how it is used, and your rights. It is written to meet the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is Mia Michaels, author. You can contact her about anything in this policy at [email protected].
What is collected and why
When you email. If you write to [email protected], Mia receives your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write. This is used only to read and reply to your message. The lawful basis is legitimate interests: responding to people who get in touch.
When you visit the site. The site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web server, Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, so the site can be delivered and protected against abuse. The lawful basis is legitimate interests: running a secure website. This information is not used to identify or profile you.
The site has no sign-up forms, no comments, no accounts and no payments, so no other personal information is collected.
Cookies and similar technologies
The site does not use advertising, tracking or analytics cookies, and it does not load any third-party trackers. Fonts and scripts are served from this site itself.
When you choose Accept or Reject on the cookie banner, that choice is saved in your browser’s local storage under the name mm-consent, so the banner does not keep reappearing. This is strictly necessary to remember your preference and does not identify you. You can change your choice at any time using at the bottom of every page, or by clearing your browser’s site data.
If optional cookies, such as analytics, are ever added, they will only run if you choose Accept, and this policy will be updated first to describe them.
Links to Amazon
The “Buy on Amazon” links take you to Amazon. Anything you do there, including buying the book, is covered by Amazon’s own privacy notice and terms, not this policy. This site does not receive any information about your visit to Amazon or your purchases.
Who your data is shared with
Your personal information is never sold, rented or used for marketing. It is shared only with the service providers needed to run the site and email:
- Cloudflare, Inc., which hosts the website and routes email sent to [email protected] to Mia’s mailbox.
- The provider of Mia’s email mailbox, where forwarded messages are stored.
Information may also be disclosed if the law requires it.
International transfers
Cloudflare operates a global network, so technical data may be processed outside the UK. Where that happens, it is protected by safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as the International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long information is kept
Emails are kept only as long as needed to deal with your message and any follow-up, then deleted. Cloudflare keeps technical logs for a limited period under its own retention policies.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information held about you
- ask for it to be corrected if it is wrong
- ask for it to be deleted
- object to, or ask to restrict, how it is used
- ask for it to be transferred to you or someone else
- withdraw consent at any time, where consent is the basis for using it
To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. You will get a reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how your information has been handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. Please consider getting in touch first so the issue can be put right.
Children
This site is not aimed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
